About

I like figuring out how things work. Then making them work better.

Sometimes that means writing software. Sometimes it means getting the tools out.

The work side

I'm Jack Morpheus. I'm engineering-trained, with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina. I spent two years in facility operations at ExxonMobil's corporate headquarters, then left to build my own businesses.

The first was a trucking company. It closed for market reasons. Before any of that I ran an IT business. Since 2016 I've run a short-term rental business in Dallas-Fort Worth as an Airbnb Superhost.

I grew that business without an outside network, so when I needed tools I made them. Email that files itself. Reporting on every listing against prior years. Door codes that set themselves. Then I started building the same kind of systems for other operators: land, cabins, crews, locks, vehicles, devices, and the AI that ties them together.

I build with AI coding tools. The job is still to understand the problem, make the decisions, and check that the result does what it should.

Working with me is straightforward. I'll tell you what something costs and what can go wrong. Then it's your call. If I think an idea is weak, I'll say so before you pay me to build it.

I'm not a licensed professional engineer and don't take work that requires one. Licensure is a goal.

I'm 6'6" and I do most of my own repairs. I rebuilt the top end on my dual-sport motorcycle. I chased electrical failures in a minivan down to one bad module. I handle my own HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work too.

I ride dual-sport and drive off-road when I can. I speak conversational Spanish and have traveled a lot on my own through Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
